A father’s role
Although many try to down play the role of fathers in today’s society, the truth is a father’s role in the life of a child is just as significant as is a mother’s role. Fathers have the balance of molding their children and playing a leadership role in the household.
This Father’s Day marks what many call the 100 year anniversary of the holiday. Nowadays the roles of breadwinner and homemaker are shared in most families. Even still, the father’s role is more than providing for the family’s physical needs but he’s the spiritual leader as well. The time spent with the family going to church together is so important. Fathers deserve time to relax, to have alone time (just as mothers do), but not when it is detrimental to the family, time that can be spent being that role model and leader.
Mark 8:34-36, “Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
Children watch you as adults, as parents and they learn by your actions. The way your kids see your relationship with your spouse and with your God matters. This will be the very foundation they will use to build their relationships with God and their future marriages.
