Being Prepared

Posted January 17, 2010
by Neil Saavedra

Not every seed planted will grow. Are you someone who likes to be prepared or do you plant one seed hoping just one will be enough? Being prepared doesn’t mean you lack faith or you’re not trusting God, on the contrary, it simply shows you are not using the tools God gave you. See what’s up ahead. Prepare for the things that may come, good or bad.

Don’t be lazy…

Proverbs12:24, “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.”

The “prudent” person looks ahead for problems to avoid…

Proverbs 27:12, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.”

Just like driving a car, you carry extra materials just in case: a spare tire, oil, anti-freeze, etc. But if you get excited and move too quickly, if you don’t have a plan, if your emotions lead you, there can be problems and you won’t be ready for them. Much of the current economic problems came from a lack of preparedness, a lack of planning, and a lack of saving. But if you’re diligent and practical and you make a plan, looking for what may come in the future, you will be better off. You are capable of getting these things under control, of being productive and planning properly so the future is more secure and hopeful for you.

Luke 14:28-30, “For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?”

There’s a unity between trusting God and using the tools He gave you.
Proverbs 16:20, “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.”

Using the gifts God gave you shows your trust in Him. You must be diligent in preparing for the things that could happen, good and bad, or you will be a slave to the consequences.
