Don’t Manipulate, Inspire
There’s a vast difference between inspiring and manipulating, they both motivate reaction but only one does it righteously. A small battle ensued over an Oscar when a Producer of the film The Hurt Locker emailed Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members asking them to vote for his film and not for another. This reminded me of how some people share their faith. When you tell people about your faith are you trying to force it and do a “hard sell” manipulating someone to believe? Or are you letting your life be the example so people realize the truth through the way you live?
You don’t have to sell it, but as it says in 1 Timothy, just be the example. They’ll see it on their own. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t talk about or share your faith…just don’t force it. Think of the things in life that have true value. They don’t need to be forced. People flock to them. They recognize truth, honesty, and the real power behind it.
You don’t have to be slick or coerce people to get them to see something.
Ephesians 4:14, “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love…”
It’s not by slick words or a smooth presentation, but free choice and a real example so people can see God really working in your life. Be the example. Don’t manipulate people, inspire them.
