It’s becoming more common to follow postmodern thinking that says it’s all relative, each person defines his or her own truth and there’s no such thing as absolute truth. This kind of thinking, called relativism misses the point. This idea that “perception is reality,” can’t work. It says that all is equal and fair – no one wins or loses. In the interest of saving someone’s feelings…truth takes the back seat. This not only affects faith and life decisions but the smaller things as well. The biggest crime in all this relativism is that it strips truth from the equation.

Pushing through tough times, honing a skill, being accountable and self reliant, all these wonderful benefits of right and wrong, success and failure get cast aside if there’s not a measuring rod of truth showing you where you’re doing well, and where you can improve. Truth by its very nature is exclusionary. To make a factual statement, to speak truth is to exclude all other false options.

Jesus did this when speaking with Thomas. John 14:5-6, “Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and THE TRUTH and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
.
You will notice Jesus said “the truth” not a truth. When there’s no absolute truth, you don’t have to be accountable, right and wrong becomes a guessing game based on feelings and not facts. It puts everyone safely in the middle but truth suffers and consequently, so does everything else. All that is productive and moves you forward needs the backboard…the propellant of truth.
