Jesus the cartoon

There was a recent news story that grabbed a lot of attention involving the possibility of a new Jesus Christ TV cartoon that would air on Comedy Central. Right away Christians were up in arms about such a show, and I’m not saying that is wrong, but what is more important to God is how believers portray Him and not how unbelievers portray Him.

Cartoons are exaggerations or distortions of the real deal. Often, these kinds of parodies come from an uninformed perspective. Why is that? When it comes to Christianity false perceptions or caricatures come from what the “church” projects about God. When you see a caricature of Christ and it looks silly or exaggerated, understand it’s made by people who don’t have a lot of experience with Jesus or the Bible, they learn about Jesus by what you, as a Christian do and say.

You are an example of what a Christian is, of who Christ is. When there’s infighting within the church that looks ugly or doesn’t make sense to the outside world, it creates an opportunity for others to misunderstand and get the wrong image of Christ and perpetuate that distortion…that “cartoon”.

Don’t blame the cartoonist for capturing your imperfections…learn from how others perceive you.  Are you representing Christ in the way He deserves?
