Do people describe you as reliable? Do you follow through on what you say you’re going to do?
The consistency of your words and actions are important. If people cannot count on what you say, then there is no foundation for who you are whether it’s at work, at home, or in relationships. Similarly, when you lie, there’s no foundation for truth because it’s always changing.
Matthew 5:37, “Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes” and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” This reliability is imperative throughout scripture. If your word is clear, you shouldn’t need to add to it. What could you possibly add that would make your word truer?
Often what makes you unreliable is when you overextend yourself. You say yes to a request when you really don’t have time to take on another task. You cannot be available to do everything. Knowing your limitations is a great place to start – what you can do and what you can’t. If you say yes to something, own it and do a good job because you have the time and you can commit to it. But if you pass, then own that too. Be someone who is reliable.
