The right way

The right way is almost never the easy way. In life, even in the church, people want the quick fix. This week, Fox News reported Ohio daycare workers gave children over the counter melatonin supplements to help them sleep. People often try to skip steps in life rather than letting the natural process take its course. Doing things quicker doesn’t make them better. The outcome of the “easy way” is often more taxing to clean up than it would have been to do right the first time.

Scripture echoes this when talking about Salvation in Matthew 7:13, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”

How many times do you encounter something that you’ll have to focus and work for, invest your time in, and you look for the short cut? It’s far better to build upon a sturdy foundation.

Luke 6:47-49, “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Do you try to build the things in your life upon a sturdy foundation or do you try to find the way to get there as quickly as possible?

Don’t remove structure to make things easier for yourself, look for how you can make things stronger and take the narrower more difficult path to do things the right way.
