Getting away with it
On these home video shows you see people try foolish things and it seems ok because there was little consequence, they lived through it. People think that if there aren’t immediate consequences, then it’s ok. But, in the fool’s eyes their way is always right.
Proverbs 12:15, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.”
Even when there are no immediate consequences when you do something foolish, doesn’t mean God condones your actions. Even when you think He isn’t, God is watching and He does care. In the past, the Israelites thought the same thing. Ezekiel 9:9, “…The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.” Since the consequences weren’t immediate the Israelites thought God was unaware.
If you don’t have a quick punishment, you don’t think it’s wrong. If no one sees you, you don’t think it’s wrong. There are certain things that inherently wrong and you know they are wrong regardless of the outcome.
If you build your character based only on the consequences that may or may not come after an act, your view and your actions will be skewed.
When you “get away” with something, when God seems silent, it’s not because He doesn’t see you or He doesn’t care. He simply wants you to learn from it and take the opportunity to turn around and do the right thing.
